Our Classes

Own Your Space!

In our intimate sessions, children are given individual attention allowing for a personal and differentiated approach geared towards the students’ needs. Whether a child needs a confidence boost, help developing stronger speaking skills or simply a space to express themselves through performance, Storybox can deliver. Our classes are fun, innovative and stimulating, allowing pupils to explore a wide range

of theatre and literature.

Juniors

Seniors

Our Junior pupils follow LAMDA’s Introductory and Speaking Verse and Prose syllabi. These qualifications use poetry and prose to develop effective oral communication skills that will prove invaluable throughout life.

Children get the chance to explore a variety of fun poetry and prose throughout the year, learn valuable performance and speaking skills, all the while gaining useful feedback on a weekly basis. Pupils in Years 1-6 are given a red LAMDA book upon joining which they are expected to bring into class every week and then take home to practise with during the week. Poems are stuck into the book and teacher feedback is written in here too.

All pupils have the opportunity to participate in a local speech and drama festival and a yearly LAMDA showcase at their school.

Seniors

Our Senior students choose to follow either LAMDA’s Acting, Verse and Prose, Musical Theatre or Public Speaking syllabi. These are Ofqual regulated qualifications that use the preparation and performance of a variety of texts to support the development of self-confidence and communication skills.

Each student is guided through selecting the best pieces to perform for their summer exam. The autumn and spring terms focus on the preparation of the pieces and the knowledge required. The summer term is used to polish up pieces and theory knowledge so that students feel  prepared for their exam.

Students are encouraged to share their work with their peers in class making for an engaging and interactive lesson. All students have the opportunity to showcase their work in a LAMDA Slam.

“I truly believe LAMDA has been instrumental in developing their confidence and benefited them beyond the classroom. Your coaching has helped them grow into articulate, expressive speakers, whether performing for a small group or standing in front of 100 people… Thank you for all the support and guidance you’ve given them over the years. It’s had a lasting impact.”

Benefits

LAMDA Exams

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected awarding organisationshaving offered practical exams in communication and performance subjects for over 130 years.  Every year, we offer all our students the chance to take their LAMDA exam. These take place on agreed dates during the summer term in an environment geared for success. The examiners are always supportive and friendly, creating a positive environment for the learners. Students can work their way up the LAMDA grades similar to learning a musical instrument. LAMDA exams are included in the UCAS tariff – this means that from Grade 6 and above students can claim points to help them towards their university applications. All our exam results are made available in September.
